Thank you! Now I really have to decide whether or not to take Mary Stewart's Trilogy plus the best World Atlas available,(probably National Geographic's)and probably should take a copy of The Bible. Subject to change, of course. But that is my first 5.

*LOL* Wolfie, I would not have thought of it. Must be a Larousse's Encyclodedia of Desert Island life, and the Zagat Guide to good food on same.
How about a Fodor's Guide so you get the best of palm trees to shade you...
Why not just take a laptop...or is that heresy (and where is the electricity?!)

Hey, Terry has a palm pilot which shoots straight for the satellite without a modem... But, you cannot surf the Spring very easily with it - or for very long...

...but it would not do. I could never again see remember buttons (if, indeed, I ever will again...) with the palm pilot. That is too big a loss to ask me to bear.

Let's see, there are about three collections of Peter Egan's columns and articles from Road & Track, so what would the other two be...
ASTERIX COMICS! Asterix In Switzerland and Asterix In Corsica.

You could read through these in a week or two, don't you need some big, fat books, say A la recherche de temps perdu by Marcel Proust, or War and Peace, or James Joyce Ulysses?

It would have to be some epic tome...I never re-read books, so I will have to think about what is still out there that could keep me busy for a long time!

Take Mitchener with you and Tolstoy plus a Bible in ancient Greek and teach yourself to read it.
I love ASTERIX - but will it pale after a long while? I'd also take my collected works of Walt Kelly.

My Trixie Belden series (LOL! i'm not kidding!) :-)
Autumn, i cant believe you dont re-read! ...my old favorites get positively abused. (spines completely broken, pages falling out, etc.)
The Bible in ancient Greek is a little to advanced for me Marica- :-) Would take a KJV copy though. I love the language in that version. Sounds more like scripture to me than some of the more recent versions.

That's why I'd choose Asterix in Switzerland with Roman quaestor Vexatius Sinusitus and Asterix in Corsica with most of Asterix's friends from the other adventures (except Sinusitus) and with the sphinx-like Boneywasawarriorwayayix.
Actually, though, I forgot the most important book: a HUGE blank book for me to fill with scribblings...

I know this lady can spin a fine yarn, indeed. Sam is also a gifted writer. I hope you are rescued with notes intact. I think I would need a computer with a lifetime supply of data to keep me company. Perhaps loaded with Project Guttenburg...

i'd prefer the big blank book and plenty of pencils (and a sharpener).....but i'll stick with my first choice a long time ago, a big Stranded on a Deserted Island for Dummies!

Think perhaps i would also like to have a copy of Wolf's Stranded on a Deserted Island for Dummies! :-) excellent choice Wolf~
Also, would like copies of Bridget Jones Diary and The Edge of Reason -so i could always have something to laugh about. *big grin*
And maybe something completely useless (but great day-dreaming material) like a EuroRail train schedule, or a map of Paris.

The adolescent fiction book, "The Bridge to Teribithia"... a tearjerker but a real reminder of a read as well...
Erma Bombeck's "I Lost Everything in the PostNatal Depression"
and, of course, "Love Story."
I'd leave all the psychothrillers at home, since they'd probably scare me to much if I were stranded by myself...
