And although their tunes and lyrics all sound roughly the same, they're really fun and full of energy. But I think their secret lies in their charisma. They are the two most down to earth, relaxed singers I've ever seen live, and therefore the crowd is relaxed as well, and the whole thing just turns into a big, big party. Wait, I'll see if I can post a picture of them - they're mega sexy!

In the midst of St. Pauli, Hamburgs infamous entertainment district, it used to be a red-light affair with lots of decadent stucco baby angels (putti ?) and mirrors. Superstar had an evening there, when the mag did the tour in '97, and it's a great location. Sure fitting to kick the tour off there!

Monday:

Honor of Brigid, musicians, poets, and others gather on the first
Monday of each month for an outdoor open mic in the backyard of Natural
Magic (near Airport Blvd. and 53rd St.). It's also a potluck evening so
bring food and drink to share. Nonperishable food donations, toiletries,
and money are accepted on behalf of the Poets' Pantry.
Tuesday:
Ruta
Maya Open Mic Poetry is each Tuesday evening at Ruta Maya Coffee
at 4th and Lavaca. Go to listen or participate in poetry readings (sign up
for readings begins at 6 p.m. This is an uncensored event.
Wednesday:
The
Open Field Creative Writing Center Monthly Readings are held on
the fourth Wednesday of each month. Enjoy an open mic at Barnes &
Noble-Sunset Valley.
Thursday:
Austin
Poetry Slam meets each Thursday at Gaby & Mo's on Manor Road for a
little team and individual poetic competition with a $50 first prize.
$2.00 admission. First time at a slam? Be sure to read all the rules and
helpful guidelines at the site.
Saturday:
Expressions
is a spoken word event held the first Saturday of each month. It's a
family-friendly venue at Austin Baha'i Center (across from the old Mueller
Airport main entrance). Themes change monthly. Admission is one or more
non-perishable food items for donation to the Poet's Pantry.
