Topic 15 of 71: KFON 1490 AM all sports radio for Austin

Mon, Aug 5, 1996 (08:46) | Paul Terry Walhus (terry)
KFON is Austin's first all sports 24 hour radio station. It's at 1490 on
the AM dial. You gotta like these guys. Max Miller does the morning
show from 7 to 9 am and Dribblin' Dick Dickerson does the afternoon show
from 4 to 7. Their call in number is 390-kfon or 390-5366.

They also have nationally broadcast materials with the likes of Kevin
Wall, Arnie Spanier, and Larry Cotlar. They have a great website at

http://www.1on1sports.com

Check it out. They have a RealAudio feed and forums for discussion for
each on the air host.

I set up an area (not yet built) for a home page for Max at

http://www.kfon.com

And we're working on getting Max wired.

The latest, Max is getting *closer* to downloading Netscape, I sent a
copy of CuteFTP down to the station yesterday. One more major hurdle for
Max on the road to Net Surfin'.

Well, maybe two more. Max's past incarnation of AOL is inhibiting his efforts to get Netscape to recognize his Winsock version. If it were me at this stage, I would probably re-install Windows or put Windows 95 on that machine. Getting rid of an old AO
L stack is not the easiest thing to do.

Max got it figured out with an assist from Vern Six. He's cruising the
next now via the Spring's ppp dialup connection.

Well has Max got his own page or does he visit here like the rest of us.
I would like to know how to send Max and Dick email, do any of you have
their address? Also do they have a fax line?

Max, if your out there, you do a lot of talking on your show between 7:30
& 9:00 AM. Is that because it is your format or that there is a lack of
calls at that time. I would like to call in sometimes but waiting on the
line for 15 to 20 minutes is out of the question for me. Your show is
good but I would like to hear more opinions from other callers. Then your
show would be great.

Come one, come all to Sportsfan 1490! Call the morning show
(with me) between 7 and 9, or the afternoon show (with
Dribblin' Dick Dickerson) between 4 and 7. Afternoons are
a little busy, but you can almost always get through
right away on the morning show.

I listen to her every once in a while on KFON, her main job I guess is the radio and she also does the thing on ESPN-2. Have not heard anything recently on her radio show.

Now that daylight savings is here and the sun goes down around 5:30 I've notice that KFON is almost impossible to get out the 183 corridor. Really sucks, cause now I can't hear the velvetly voice of Dribblin Dick after around 5:45. Wonder why that is?

You might try a radio with a more sensitive receiver. The GE SuperRadio
($40 or so) at Best Buy works pretty well in fringe areas. Are you
inside an office building?

Thanks for the reply. No, it happens at home and I live near 183 and 620. Only happens after the sun goes down oddly enough and it happens at home as well as in my car after the sun goes down when anywhere in NW Austin, might try your suggestion since I can't get KFON at work in Pflugerville either, thought about getting a better antennae at home but listen to the radio most in my car.

If you guys are skeptic about the BABE, you should check out another talk show on approximately the same time as her. He is Jim Rome, and his show is great. I live in San Marcos, and when I'm not working in Austin, I hear him from time to time on the TICKET in San Antonio.
His show is also simulcast on RealAudio everyday, at www.JimRome.com. I think KFON should think about signing up as an affialte to his show. Have a take and don't suck, OUT!!

I like the babe. I just wish her interviews were more in depth.
