Golf. One of the worlds most popular and fastest growing sports. My
sister just started a company called Bay Area Golf Travel and I just
registered the name golftravel.net for her web site. These days
spectactor golf seems to boil down to two words, Tiger Woods. Is he
going to take the game to new levels and bring it to the masses? Or is
he overhypped. Nike seems to be betting on him pretty heavily (50
million bucks worth).

Do you play? What are your favorite courses? Favorite golfers? How
often do you get out on the links? What kind of clubs do you use?

Tiger Woods is off to a pretty good start;.

I heard in one of his first tournaments he had something like 6 birdies in a
row. He had a good tournament last week (although it was rain shortened).

He is doing very well in his first three tournaments. He finished 11th
last week and won $37,500.

In his last tournament, he wrapped his six iron around a tree when he
went into the water and two bad holes kept him from the win

If Tiger gets in the 150th money position, then he is entitled to an
"unlimted number of sponsor exemptions". If he makes 125th he gets his
tour card. After 3 pro tournaments he is 166th on the money list.

Tiger Woods shot a rocking and rolling 65 which may be a record for the US
Open at Pebble.

Daly lost it on the 18th with a 14. Makes me feel not so bad about some
the holes I've played. Man, I hope he doesn't get too drunk.

Play got suspended. The US Open is gonna be good!

I'm think about a round at Colo Vista, down the road.

"ColoVista is a scenic and challenging 18 hole, par-72 golf course that's worthy of any
champion's respect. In fact, Texas golf professionals surveyed by Gulf Coast Golfer ranked us
#4 in best overall courses. However, without a membership to one of the top three courses, you
won't be getting a tee time!

On our lush, semi-private course is always a pleasurable experience! That's why the Dallas
Morning News voted ColoVista the best new course in Texas. Two distinctive styles of golf play
are available at ColoVista. The front nine plays as a "Texas Style Links" course and the back
nine features a "Hill Country Design" with dramatic elevation changes, stunning river bluff
views and rows of trees lining the fairways.

The manicured luster of plush greens and fairways at ColoVista are nurtured by a
state-of-the-art computerized irrigation system to ensure the integrity of play
year-round. Also on site are a driving range, putting and chipping green, fully staffed golf
shop with a class "A" PGA teaching staff."

RYDER CUP
Americans fight back to level match

By Ananova

America fought back to win the afternoon fourballs and leave the Ryder Cup tied going into the final day's singles at The Belfry.

Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia were so close to being Europe's heroes along with Colin Montgomerie, but suffered heartache on the final green.

Chasing their fourth win out of four, Garcia three-putted the 17th and Westwood the 18th to hand Tiger Woods and Davis Love the unlikeliest of victories.

But rookie Paul McGinley saved a vital half by winning the final hole of the final match of the day to make the overnight score Europe 8 USA 8.

Sam Torrance's side have a tough task ahead though if they are to regain the trophy. The Americans have only twice lost the concluding singles since 1957.

A tired but inspired Montgomerie took his record for the week to three wins and a half, but his win with Padraig Harrington proved to be Europe's only win in the second series of fourballs.

Niclas Fasth and Jesper Parnevik lost from three-up after seven against Mark Calcavecchia and David Duval as America staged their fightback.

Garcia and Westwood must have thought victory was minutes away when the Spaniard drilled a fairway wood onto the front of the green at the 17th.

They were one-up at the time with Tiger Woods and Davis Love both more than 150 yards from the green in two. But they lost the hole when Love chipped in and the American made par at the last for victory.

Montgomerie and Harrington sent America's only unbeaten pair, Phil Mickelson and David Toms, to a two and one defeat to raise European hopes.

McGinley then made his par on the last to earn a valuable half and leave the match score all-square.

Europe start with big guns

By Ananova

Sam Torrance and Curtis Strange have decided totally different strategies for the final day of the Ryder Cup.

With the two teams level 8-8, Torrance starts off with five of his big guns - unbeaten Colin Montgomerie, Sergio Garcia, Darren Clarke, Bernhard Langer and Padraig Harrington.

Strange, on the other hand, has put Davis Love 10th, world number two Phil Mickelson last but one (against Phillip Price) and world number one Tiger Woods last of all against Jesper Parnevik.

The danger for the Americans, of course, is that if Torrance's plan comes off Woods and Mickelson could find themselves in dead matches.

Montgomerie plays Scott Hoch, whom he faced in the final match of the 1997 match at Valderrama.

They halved that - but it was all Europe required to keep the trophy.

Garcia plays David Toms and Clarke is up against David Duval.

11.15 Colin Montgomerie v Scott Hoch

11.27 Sergio Garcia v David Toms

11.39 Darren Clarke v David Duval

11.51 Bernhard Langer v Hal Sutton

12.03 Padraig Harrington v Mark Calcavecchia

12.15 Thomas Bjorn v Stewart Cink

12.27 Lee Westwood v Scott Verplank

12.39 Niclas Fasth v Paul Azinger

12.51 Paul McGinley v Jim Furyk

13.03 Pierre Fulke v Davis Love III

13.15 Phillip Price v Phil Mickelson

13.27 Jesper Parnevik v Tiger Woods

The Underdogs win the RYDER CUP
EUROPE 15.1/2 USA 12.1/2

Torrance of tears at European triumph

European captain Sam Torrance broke down in tears after leading his team to a glorious Ryder Cup victory over the United States at The Belfry.

Paul McGinley gave Europe the 14 1/2 points they needed for victory with an 18-foot putt on the last green.

The European heroes immediately invaded the 18th and Torrance told Sky Sports: "They have all done a great job, I am so proud of every one of them.

"This had nothing to do with me. I led them to the water and they drank copiously. Nothing compares with this."

Hero McGinley said: "What is it about the Irish and the Ryder Cup? It was fantastic.

"I am happy for Sam who has been a majestic captain. We've had a great time, just great."

Asked what he felt as he lined up the putt on the last, McGinley said: "Don't miss it! I was fortunate - I had that putt two years ago in the Benson and Hedges to come second. I had to have the nerve to hit it on line."
