Riette Walton (riette)
Musical, that is. What's your favourite? Why? Do you play any interesting
instruments yourself?

play?

everyone had to join either the choir or band in fifth grade...
since there seemed no apparent need for vocal expertise of my caliber, I chose band. And, since I couldn't keep a beat to save my life, drums were out.
I enjoyed listening to ragtime music as a kid and liked Benny Goodman (American clarinetist)... it seemed the logical choice.
Oh, did I forget to mention it was also the only instrument I could get to make a sound during the audition...
Not difficult to play at all.
Takes practice, a strong mouth and quick tongue...
you'd LOVE it!

ha-ha!
Think I'll stick to the piano though - I've always been better with my hands than
with my head . . .
But the clarinet is a great instrument. I love that smooth, mellow, laid back sound.
My favourite instrument for sound would have to be the saxophone
I think. Or the cello, but only when VERY well played. My favourite cellist is Miklós Perényi; although I hate people who are that talented. And he's a
bl%dy genius!

I learned to play Clarinet, Piano, and Organ, but I always wanted to play Tenor Saxophone.

The reason that I never learned Saxophone is that the instrument is so expensive. But now a friend of mine has told me that she also wants to learn to play the Saxophone. So, we are going to split the cost and buy one together.

Good for you! The thought of learning a new "skill" of any sort is daunting to me. I would've liked to play the harp.

I love to listen to a good harp player. I used to work in a bar, when I was in high school, that had a harp, it was beautiful, and so was she, as I recall.

Why are harpists always women? For the same reason that tuba players are men?

I once saw her carrying and playing a tuba way out in the Namib desert
with her nostrils flaring and her bare legs showing and reflecting
a corner of the sky off them
that was the first time I'd asked her for her autograph....
she gave me some cherries to eat and that look like she
could fetch a peck on the cheek and it'd be okay
she pointed up and I saw her laser light show
did i forget to say that it was night?
yeah it was night
the moon and stars made us go so quiet that I
could really hear that tuba
her playing was frank and I would say somewhat confessional....
for sound reasons I can still hear it whenever I want to....and
I want to.....

That's so sweet, Jim. The desert does bring out the best in both of us, doesn't it?
I think if I were playing a tuba in a parade you wouldn't know, Tim. That's because you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the tuba and me!

Recorder and guitar, neither of them to any great extent.
And J.P. Sousa invented a tuba that was easier to carry than the concert type. It's called a sousaphone...
